Actually it is not a must to start a journey from the country of your living. If you are interested in some special cruise and it starts from Italy, as an example, you can always go to Italy by plane and then join the ship there. On another hand as an advantage of cruises as a different type of travelling is shipping. It is the best way of travelling for those who are afraid of planes. From what to start with ? It is a common rule that every trip starts with going to an airport and wait for the flight. As for all cruises – it is all the same, you just go to the pier.
